Coronado

Coronado is a resort city in San Diego Bay. It has a large beach, Centennial Park, which offers spectacular views of the San Diego skyline, and the Hotel Del Coronado.

The Hotel Del Coronado was opened in 1888 and is located just five miles from downtown. It is both a National Historic Landmark as well as a California Historical Landmark.

Torrey Pines Gliderport

The Torrey Pines Gliderport is located in La Jolla. It was founded in 1930 as a private glider airport. The gliderport is a top spot for paragliding and hang-gliding in the country.

Blacks Beach is a quiet section of beach with one of California’s most powerful surf breaks.

You’ll find the Blacks Beach clothing optional section just 100 yards from the trailhead to the Gliderport.

Whale watching

Whale watching in San Diego is one of my favourite things to do, from blue whales to humpbacks. Oceanside Adventures departs from the charming Oceanside harbor and I highly recommend it. They offer whale watching at its best and also provide luxury experiences with a variety of options, including a wine tour.

A whale-watching trip is my favorite way to see the whales (not to mention it’s more ethical and kind to them).

Windansea Beach

Windansea Beach, La Jolla is located at 6800 Neptune Place. It offers great surf breaks all year with incredible views. Visit Windansea’s historic Surf Shack, built by WWII soldiers and enjoyed surfing there in the 1940s.

Fun fact: Windansea was the main location for Andy Warhol’s 1967 film, “San Diego Surf.” Talking about iconic.

Cedar Creek Falls

Cedar Creek Falls, also known as Devil’s Punch Bowl, is an 80-foot waterfall that cascades into the freshwater pool below. It’s one of my favorite day trips from San Diego. My experience is that it is best to visit the falls during the spring, when the weather is nice and the pool is at its highest. Also, bring plenty of water as the hike can be strenuous.

Hotel Del Coronado

Hotel Del Coronado, a San Diego (and American) classic, is as mentioned above. The hotel is just steps from the beach, with great entertainment and restaurants just a few minutes away.

La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla

La Jolla’s La Valencia Hotel, a hotel that combines luxury and a stunning ocean view is a classic gem. It will make you feel like you’re in San Diego’s most famous neighborhoods.

Kona Kai Resort on Shelter Island

Kona Kai Resort offers a variety of dining options within walking distance and cute lounges with beach vibes. There is also a new adult-only pool.
